Final edits and feedback

The following is my final set of images for this brief, which I displayed at today's feedback session.

I was complimented on the composition of the portrait, as the two portrait images in the background, either side of the shop owner, compliment his stern stance and add character. It was drawn upon that should I have been able to, the image may have benefited from me moving back a little to open the frame so that the book at the bottom was in full view. The use of flash was also drawn upon, however with my other images the use of flash works as a series.

The main aspect drawn upon this image was the use of flash on the leather/reflective materials. It was questioned why I used flash and I explained that I had wanted to capture the qualities of the materials, due to the eclectic mixture of fabrics within the shop. It was also drawn upon that the flash, along with the depth of field, created an interesting composition.

Feedback for this image was mainly on the composition, of the mannequin in the left hand side and it was queried if the sign above the door displayed the shop name, which it didn't. This was a very restricted space to photograph the front of the shop, and the only way I could have solved the issue with the mannequin would have been to move it.

I would like to go back and re-shoot this in the future when I have more time, perhaps looking at other shops within Afflecks too. I have not explored environmental portraiture before and although it has been challenging I have recognised the appeal and potential it holds.
